Math News - Week 12 (16 November - 20 November 2009)

This is the material that you will be learning in my class this week:

  1. Interpret the Quotient (Section 3-9, pages 131-133)
  2. Solving Decimal Equations (Section 3-10, pages 134-137)
  3. Divisibility (Section 4-1, pages 152-55)

The homework for the week is as follows:
Monday Night (due Tuesday) - Homework sheets 3-9 & 3-10
Thursday Night (due Friday) - Homework sheet 4-1
All week (due Friday) - Accelerated Math packet

Assessments:
  1. Tuesday - Quiz 3B (Sections 3-5 through 3-10) - 50 points
  2. Wednesday - Chapter 3 Exam - 100 points
These scores for these assessments will count towards the student's first term grade.

On Monday, 16 November, a meeting was held with each student who was missing work and each student clearly knows what work is missing and what is required to be done in order to receive credit for the first term. Scoring for this term ends on Wednesday, 18 November 2009 at 3:00 p.m. All late homework will be accepted until that time for credit. IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!

Math News - Week 10 (26 October - 30 October 2009)

  1. Multiplying Integers (Section 9-6, pages 473-475)
  2. Dividing Integers (Section 9-7, pages 476-479)
  3. Solving Integer Equations (Section 9-8, pages 482-485)

Students have homework in Accelerated Math. They should be completing objectives 29 & 30 for Monday, 31 & 32 for Tuesday and 33 for Wednesday. Homework handed in on time and complete receives full credit, late homework receives half-credit, homework not handed in receives no credit. Each homework assignment is worth 6 points. Students should do everything they can to catch up in Accelerated Math so that they are doing the work assigned on the day it is assigned. All students should know their login information and how to connect to the Accelerated Math website.

Assessments:
  1. Quiz 3B - Tuesday, 27 October (Sections 9-4 to 9-8). (50 points)
  2. Test #3 - Chapter 9 - Thursday, 29 October. (100 points)

Homework will be assigned from worksheets handed to each student every day. Homework handed in on time and complete receives full credit, late homework receives half-credit, homework not handed in receives no credit. Each homework assignment is worth 6 points.

Assessments:
  1. Quiz 2B - Monday, 5 October. (50 points)
  2. Test - Chapter 2 - Wednesday, 7 October. (100 points)

Reminders:
  1. As of today, students will be taking assessment #3A on sections 9-1, 9-2 and 9-3 on Wednesday, 14 October. There will be a time for review before the quiz, but students should be prepared for the quiz.

STUDY!!

Guidelines for Studying in 6th Grade Math

  1. Students in my class should be studying 15 minutes per night. The studying should consist of reading the textbook section currently being learned in addition to reading returned homework, TOPS reports, class notes and class work.
  2. Students should also be completing the exercises in the textbook section currently being learned. Many of these problems have their solutions in the back of the textbook. These problems should be done to complement learning and comprehension. Questions that arise from this work can be addressed in an e-mail to me or in class.

Make Up Test

There will be a make-up test for Chapter 1 on Thursday 24 September 2009 in Room 12 at 3:00 p.m. All students are invited to re-test on the same objectives tested on Monday.

Your grade on the make-up test will be averaged with your grade on Monday's test to derive your score for this first unit assessment.

Please arrange for transportation home by about 3:45 p.m. Any questions, please respond to this post or e-mail me.
